Historical corset drawings

I've had these drawings of historical corsets for years, so long that I can't remember where they came from now.  I just love them though and they have been such an inspiration over the years, I figured that they had to go up here!

Fascinating little treasures

Here are just a few little treasures that I had passed to me the other day,  I found them so intriguing I just had to post them up here!

The first originally belonged to my great aunt lily whom my grandmother used to tease for her immaculate organisation and the way she used to package and label everything.  I have to say that I am rather grateful for it now.

There was something so exciting about gently peeling back the layers that covered such delicate items that had obviously been highly cherished for 76 years and all kept together with the fabulous photo!

The second item is a tiny decorative pouch that was crocheted by my great aunt Edith.
It was probably supposed to be used to fragrance clothing, I remember my grandmother having an obsession with putting highly perfumed soaps in to pouches like this one and placing them between layers of clothing in a draw.

This piece of lace trim is also from the 1930's but from France this time, it is so intricately beautiful, I may have to take up lace making as a hobby!!

Dreams of green dresses

I woke up this morning with the most gorgeous green dress in my head, it's perfect, it fits with everything that I have been working on recently.  It does remind me  little of this one that I made just the other week but with a different neckline and off the shoulder straps,  the corset shape is a lot more like the Georgian style.
I have a gorgeous green dupion satin that I just had to buy because it was just so delicious and I've been planning to make a dress in it but couldn't quite decide what. I've been playing around with some new patterns too, the Georgian elements are teasing my brain!  it's fabulous I can't wait to get to the studio and make a start.

I have also been commisioned to make a wedding dress that is just going to be so beautiful, sapphire blue and Ivory, so lush I can't wait to get that properly under way too, it's all too exciting, I just can't get going fast enough.

It has reminded me aswell that there are a few of my recent commissions that I haven't posted up here yet, I'll put them up in a gallery this evening!

The ivory and pink rose corset!! I photographed it over a cream skirt but I think this is the kind of corset that would look equally fabulous over a pair of blue jeans.

The experiments continue

The experiments with the paler appliquéd details also have both good
and bad qualities though different to the black, I like the subtlety of
the detail but it is hard to convey it in photographs.

I like the fact that you have to look a little closer at a garment
sometimes and everytime you look at it, you see something different,
some thing that catches the light in a new way, garments like that
never get boring or dull.  I didn't do as much work in this test, I

Experiments

Well the beginning of the year has been a bit of a roller coaster ride so far but things are starting to settle down a bit now, giving me the opportunity to pick up some of the arty ideas I started to develop over the last year...  though I should say 'few' years, there are so many things I have planned to start, I've been collecting equipment for new arty experiments for so long and I'm dying to get my teeth in to something the world has never seen before!

Studio updates

I am focusing purely on custom orders for the moment. The new designs will have to wait just a little while longer.  The bad weather here has caused some delays and I have to stay on top. Do feel free to keep sending me messages though I am maximising my sewing time so will be answering messages in the evenings.

Keep an eye out here for regular updates and don't forget you can follow me on twitter:

I hope you are having a great day!

Frozen Britain

Nasa's terra satellite photos show a snow bound UK on the BBC News website:

Thankfully the only real difference this makes to me at the moment is that now I have to walk to work which is a little treacherous as I live at the top of a very large hill, which now has snowboarders which I never thought I'd see, but at least I have a very pretty view on the way down!

Happy new year!!!

Well... Now all the festivities are done and gone I'm fully revitalised and over inspired! It's time to knuckle down to some good hard work.  I have a lot to do to get on top and so so many new designs to get under way.  Keep your eyes peeled for all the new corsets, dresses and bridal wear coming up soon!
